Office Hours:	MW 9:30-10:30 a.m. or by appointment

Textbook:	An Introduction to Analysis by W. R. Wade (4th Edition), Prentice Hall, (Required). Additional suggested reading: Principles of Mathematical Analysis by W. Rudin, McGraw-Hill, 1976.


Prerequisites:	Math 765.

Classes

You should read the book and attempt to solve some of the problems in preparation for each class.

Homework

Homework problems will be assigned every week or every other week. Homework is a major part of the learning process in Mathematics. It is essential that students work on the problems on a regular basis. Students are encouraged to work and discuss the problems in groups, but they should turn in individual solutions. The problems will be usually listed on the course web page but the students should contact the instructor for the latest update of the assignments. Look here for the latest posted homework. No late homework assignments will be accepted.
Exams The course has two In-class Exams. The specific material to be covered in the in-class exams will be properly announced in advance. The final exam is comprehensive.

IN-CLASS EXAMS: Wednesday Feb. 15 (tentative) and Wednesday April 18 (tentative)

FINAL EXAM: Thursday, May 10, 7:30- 10:00 a.m.

Grading Your grade in the course will be determined by the number of points that you accumulate. The points are distributed in the following way:

Homework	200 points
In-class Exams 1 and 2	200 points
Final Exam	200 points

Total	600 points

A total of 90% of the points will guarantee an A, 80% a B, 70% a C, and 60% a D.

Course Content/Tentative Timetable

Chapter 7 Infinite Series of Functions: Sec. 7.1, 7.2, 7.3.
Chapter 8 Euclidean Spaces: Sec 8.1 and 8.2 must be reviewed by the students on their own; Sec 8.3, 8.4
Chapter 10 Metric Spaces: Sec. 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6. (Compared a the same time with Chapter 9.)
Chapter 11 Differentiability on R^{n}: Sec. 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4, 11.5, 11.6.
Additional topics from Chapters 12, 13, and/or 14 depending on time. Contact the instructor for updates.
